The new year

My husband was given the opportunity to emcee a local casino’s New Year’s Eve party, and because drunk people and gambling aren’t my thing these days, I opted to stay home and make pizza for the kids.

2014 hasn’t been an easy year. With so many medical ups and downs among my family members and myself, we’ve all harbored an optimistic hope that once we cleared the end of December it would usher in some sort of finish line.

It didn’t come as a shock that as my kids and I were screaming out the 10 second countdown, that my eyes involuntarily welled up with tears. Here we were, maybe a little worse for wear, but with everyone alive and okay. Chuck has recovered so well from his strokes that it’s hard to remember just 6 months ago how scared we were.

I have a beautiful baby in my arms, and despite being prediabetic after this last pregnancy, I’m already down to my pre-pregnancy weight and in a good place as far as working my way out of the diabetes danger zone.

Other challenging things that happened this year among family members have resolved themselves and after months of worry we can all breathe again.

The countdown to the new year was a huge emotional release. 2014 was tricky, but we made it.

Have a happy new year, you’ve earned it.
